Fair use rationale for Image:Charles William Alcock.jpg
[edit]Image:Charles William Alcock.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The renaming of the article
[edit]I'm not too sure about the moving of the article to Charles W. Alcock. The article on Wikipedia naming guidelines referred to by the mover includes "Generally, use the most common format of a name used in reliable sources." I've often seen him referred to as C. W. Alcock and sometimes as Charles Alcock, but I don't recall ever seeing Charles W. Alcock used. That seems to be a form much more used in the US (eg John F. Kennedy) than in the UK. JH (talk page) 16:16, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
I can see your point JH. My main issue was that C.W. Alcock went against the naming policy - I'm not sure that Alcock is known most commonly as C.W., he might be named that in contemporary sources like newspapers, but so were most people at the time. I took Charles W. Alcock from the main biography, mentioned in the references. A good parallel example from a similar time might be W.E. Gladstone - I note that his page is William Ewart Gladstone. Perhaps "Charles William Alcock" might be more suitable here? Pisgah16 (talk) 15:11, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- I hadn't noticed that Keith Booth's biography of him was entitled "Charles W. Alcock". That being the case, I withdraw my objection. I think "Charles W." is preferable to "Charles William". JH (talk page) 16:31, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
